Liverpool defender remains Napoli’s top target
Despite the difficulties facing Napoli to secure the services of Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel it has been reported that the Slovakian remains the Azzurri’s first choice although they are considering Davide Astori of Cagliari as an alternative option.
The 26-year-old Italian defender has been the subject of speculation surrounding his departure from the Sardinian club for most of pre-season and was heavily linked with a transfer to AC Milan, however, Naples now looks his most likely destination should Napoli fail with their attempts for Skrtel.
According to Il Mattino that could prove a difficult and costly exercise for the Partenopei but new coach Rafael Benitez’ preference to work with the man he signed in January 2008 will see them persist with their efforts.
At the opposite end of their transfer business it is reported that Federico Fernandez is closing in on a move to La Liga with Getafe, however, it has been suggested that Italian side Catania may join the chase for the Argentinean.
