Paolo CannavaroManchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is interested in bringing Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro to the Etihad Stadium.

The Neapolitan has made a name for himself at his hometown club in recent seasons after having lived in the shadow of older brother Fabio Cannavaro, and Pellegrini is looking to sign the Italian stopper if Portuguese defender Pepe’s transfer from Real Madrid doesn’t materialise.

According to the Mirror, the Citizens have two alternatives to Pepe in Schalke 04’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos and 32-year-old Vesuviani centre-back Cannavaro, with the Greek currently in pole position.

However, a move for the Azzurri man is not being excluded, with the player’s agent recently criticising the Napoli hierarchy over his client’s contract situation, with the Partenopei skipper still waiting for a renewal.

Cannavaro has been at his hometown club Napoli since moving from Parma in 2006 and has nine goals in 274 appearances for the club.
