Maradona: Italy v Argentina will be a world celebration
The new pontiff is an avid football fan, who supports Argentine club San Lorenzo and he met both the Albiceleste and Azzurri squads on Tuesday.
Although Maradona won’t be attending, he thinks that this will be a special occasion for the Italo-Argentine pope.
“Italy v Argentina, in the name of the Pope and of God, is the true match of the heart and it will be a world party,” Maradona told TuttoMercatoWeb.
“I am sorry to be far away from Italy otherwise I would have also been with all of them, but I will be there equally with all my heart at the ground with my brothers for the true values of the Church, of humanity and of sport.
“[It is] significant that the Argentinian and Italian athletes have been able to meet the Pope and soon there will be another time to meet him.”
