Marotta states Galatasaray will pose problems for Juventus while admitting striker is close to joining AC Milan
Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta believes the Bianconeri’s Champions League group has given them a tough matchup against Galatasaray, and revealed that negotiations are at an advanced stage with AC Milan for Alessandro Matri.
The Old Lady were drawn in Group B with Spanish giants Real Madrid, Turkish side Galatasaray and Danish side F.C. Copenhagen in Thursday’s Champions League draw.
Although Marotta accepts it will not be easy for the Turin giants, he believes that any group would have presented problems.
“In all of the groups there are great difficulties,” he told Sky after the draw.
“We’ll be playing against Galatasaray, who are a strong team that went far in last year’s Champions League and recently won the [Turkish] Super Cup. In Istanbul it won’t be easy but we will play at our best against them.
“With Real Madrid we’ll try to play them on equal terms.”
Marotta then confirmed that talks are ongoing with AC Milan for 29-year-old Italian international Matri, while denying that Juve could make a late move for long-term target Juan Camilo Zuniga of Napoli.
“[Alessandro] Matri? We have always said that six strikers are too many, there’s the opportunity for him to go to [AC] Milan, and we’ll evaluate the situation. Negotiations are well underway,” he continued.
“Zuniga? He’s a Napoli player, we can’t negotiate for him and it’s something I can’t talk about.”
