Matri: It is a special feeling to be back at AC Milan
The 29-year-old completed his €11 million move from the Bianconeri on Friday and could not hide his delight at returning to the club he grew up with as a youngster from 1996 to 2004.
“It is a special feeling to return to where I grew up and there are several factors that will help me to do well,” he told Milannews.it.
“[Massimiliano] Allegri? I talked to him yesterday when they told me about the transfer, now it is up to me to do well. There were other clubs looking to sign me but when I knew of Milan’s interest I tried to push to come back here.
“Juventus are strong , they are the favourites for the Scudetto since they have won the last two but we will look to cause problems for the Bianconeri and the others.
“The number 9 shirt? It is an important shirt, I have dreamed about it since I was a child and [Marco] Van Basten, [George] Weah and [Filipp] Inzaghi wore it. I will honour this number.
“The World Cup? It is an objective to do well for my club and then make the national team. I hope to do well here, I know the coach well and he knows me so my inclusion will be easier.”
Matri made one appearance for the Rossoneri from 2002 to 2007 before joining Cagliari in 2007 on a co-ownership deal.
