Ezequiel Garay BenficaFriday night’s pre-season encounter between Benfica and Napoli served as an opportunity for the Partenopei to enquire not only as to the availability of Oscar Cardozo, but also that of Ezequiel Garay.

Along with Cardozo, 26-year-old Argentine defender Garay is a player being targeted by the Azzurri. He is aided by the fact that he holds a Spanish passport making him an attractive proposition to coach Rafa Benitez, who is on the lookout for a new defender and a backup striker.

Tuttosport reports that the two clubs discussed the pair on Friday, and an offer of around €20 million should be sufficient to prize the Argentine international away from the Estadio da Luz, while the experienced stopper would want a contract worth €2m a season.

Garay, who has also been targeted by English side Manchester United, has been at Benfica since moving from Real Madrid in 2011, and so far has 4 goals in 79 appearances for the Portuguese giants.
