Orsi: Napoli goalkeeping hierarchy should be clear from the outset
With Napoli having signed two new goalkeepers this summer in Pepe Reina and Rafael, ex-Parma and Lazio shot stopper Fernando Orsi has claimed it is important for the club to establish a clear goalkeeping hierarchy.
The recent departure of long-serving custodian Morgan De Sanctis to Roma meant the Vesuviani were in need of reinforcements in goal and having addressed this issue, there is some speculation as to who will be Rafa Benitez’s first-choice next season.
Speaking to Radio KissKiss Napoli, the former Ternana coach gave his two cents on the goalkeeping situation in Naples.
“For me, the management of goalkeepers has to be clear from the beginning,” he said.
“The hierarchy should be well defined.
“I believe [Pepe] Reina is the first choice [goalkeeper].”
“The same thing happened at Inter with [Francesco] Toldo and Julio Cesar,” he continued.
“Toldo had been the first choice for some time, while they played Julio Cesar in the easier games.
“I think that the goalkeepers themselves also need a hierarchy as it is a very delicate role.”
