Benteke - Aston VillaRoma have added Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke as another potential target, amongst a long list of strikers the club is considering.

Since the sale of Pablo Osvaldo to Southampton and Mattia Destro’s injury, Walter Sabatini has been working hard to bring in a striker. Amongst the candidates are Catania’s Gonzalo Bergessio, Chelsea’s Demba Ba, and Nice’s Dario Cvitanich. And Benteke is the most recent name to have joined this list.

Sky Sport Italia are the ones reporting of Roma’s interest in the 23-year-old Belgian. However, because of his recently signed contract extension, it will prove a difficult task to sign the Aston Villa hitman. Consequently it is the Senegalese, Ba, who emerges as the club’s primary target.

Benteke scored 19 goals in his maiden Premier League season last year. The Belgian has already scored three goals in his first two games for Aston Villa in the current campaign.

Haha, dream on Roma. You’d struggle to sign him for less than £40m now and I doubt Villa would sell so late in window. Also, if Roma can’t keep hold of Osvaldo when Southampton (a smaller club than Villa) come calling, why would Benteke want to join?

Roma forced Osvaldo out. He was initially willing to stay. As for Benteke yes it’s doubtful Villa will sell him to anyone know

Err smaller club than Villa? Remind me how much Villa have spent this summer..

Southampton maybe be a “smaller club” than villa, but they are much more ambitious. Osvaldo was forced out of Roma, the board and a section of the fans didn’t want him anymore. I think the fee maybe a bit high for Benteke, but I don’t think he will be at villa this time next year, he may even leave in January.
