Roma plan bid for Cagliari defender
The sale of Pablo Daniel Osvaldo to Premier League side Southampton and the imminent departure of Argentine international Erik Lamela to Tottenham Hotspur have given the Lupi plenty of funds, a large portion of which they are looking to reinvest to reinforce the squad.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, a player being courted by manager Rudi Garcia is 26-year-old Italian international Davide Astori, and the French technician is working hard to convince Cagliari president Massimo Cellino into parting with his star defender.
Any move from the Eternal City side to lure AC Milan youth product Astori to the Stadio Olimpico, is dependant on the future of Argentine stopper Burdisso, who would have to move on for any deal to be completed.
New signings in the attacking department are also being planned, with strikers currently in short supply, and Fiorentina’s Serbian international forward Adem Ljajic is thought of as a viable substitute for Spurs-bound Lamela.
To replace Italo-Argentine Osvaldo, Palermo hit-man Abel Hernandez is also being targeted, and the Uruguayan would be available on a co-ownership deal for around €5 million.
With Rosanero coach Gennaro Gattuso having recently criticised 23-year-old Hernandez for his poor performance in training, the Giallorossi could use the breakdown in the relationship between the player and the club to their advantage.
