Top 10: Primavera Prospects of 2013
It is the job of Serie A clubs to identify these individuals and provide them with the perfect environment to demonstrate their abilities.
Here are the Primavera players who caught the eye in the 2012-13 season.
Simone Andrea Ganz – AC Milan
One of the few remaining members of Aldo Dolcetti’s youth side that reached the semi-finals of the Italian Cup, Simone Andrea Ganz is a youngster well known to the fans on AC Milan. Born in 1993, Ganz is one of the more experienced members of Milan’s Primavera.
Son of Maurizio Ganz, Simone began playing competitive football at the age of 12 for amateur team Masseroni Marchese in Milan. Aged 14 he joined Milan amidst interest from Inter and started playing at the regional youth level. He progressed from the Allievi Regionali to the Allievi Nazionali where he scored more than 30 goals in all competitions.
In 2010 he moved to the Primavera and despite his youth scored 10 times being the only player to score in all competitions. Last season Ganz racked up 15 goals and three assists.
He has yet to make his debut with the senior side in Serie A but did appear in the Champions League on November 2011 against Bate Borisov. Because of his experience at youth level he has begun demonstrating leadership qualities that could become a useful trait for him in the future. He has often stated his desire to feature regularly for the team he has always supported, Milan.
Ganz excels in and around the penalty area with a variety of goal-scoring techniques in his arsenal. He is not an overly selfish striker either as he regularly looks to feed teammates.
