Udinese midfielder close to Bundesliga move
The 21-year-old Kazakh-born German midfielder has been looking for a move away from Udine during this summer and he has recently rejected a move to the Russian Premier League.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Udinese are in negotiations with Hoffenheim and it seems that Merkel’s move to the German club is a distinct possibility.
Merkel has stated in the past that he would like to play in the Bundesliga and if the move to Hoffenheim becomes a reality, that opportunity would arrive sooner than expected.
Merkel has not played in Germany since he left the youth team of Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart back in 2008. He has played all of his club football at senior level on the Italian peninsula with Milan, Genoa and the Zebrette.
Merkel was born in Kazakhstan but his parents are of German ancestry and his family moved back to Germany when he was a six-year-old.
