AC Milan failed with late approach for Napoli defender
32-year-old Cannavaro had been linked with the exit door at the Stadio San Paolo after complaining of being marginalised at the club, and has been excluded for both of the Azzurri’s opening fixtures in Serie A.
However, speaking to ItaSportPress, the player’s agent moved to quell rumours of an impending move and claimed that the Neapolitan is willing to fight for his place in the side.
“There was an approach from [AC] Milan, who proposed a swap deal involving Paolo [Cannavaro] and [Cristian] Zaccardo,” Fedele said.
“However, the lad wanted to stay in Naples and we hope he can be an integral part of the project here.
“I see him fighting for the starting positions, and the arrival of [Rafa] Benitez has certainly contributed to the project and the internationalisation of the squad.”
The Partenopei youth product has nine goals in 274 appearances for the Naples-based club since rejoining the side from Parma in 2006.
