Albiol: I’m happier now that I am at Napoli
The Partenopei bought the 28-year-old from the Spanish side for a fee of €12 million this summer, and the move to Italy has come as a relief to player who was looking for more playing time.
Albiol spoke to Cuatro about the passion he has seen thus far in Naples and commented on his final months at Real Madrid.
“I’m part of this new project, with great perspectives,” said the Spanish international.
“This city is very passionate toward their players. There are pictures of [Diego] Maradona in almost every store and restaurant.
“I was lucky enough to find some of my old team-mates from Real here and, in the case of Pepe Reina, from the national team too.
“The fans want us to win the league, but it will not be easy.
“My last few months at Real? It was clear. The atmosphere wasn’t the best, as we had not been winning titles or achieving our objectives.
“There were some face to face confrontations between players and we couldn’t wait for the season to be over.
“I was fine at the Spanish club, but I decided to leave because I didn’t enjoy most of the field and I didn’t have the available playing time that I wanted.
“Now I’m happy at Napoli and we will surely fight hard to win the championship.”
