The coach also admitted that his side had performed particularly badly during the second half of the game, during which they conceded twice.
Speaking to Rai2 after the defeat, Maran held his hands up, conceding,
“It was a bit of a strange evening, but we are not looking for an excuse for the bad second half”, though he did go on to explain that his side had been hindered by players being injured, not just against the Nerazzurri, but in their previous game at Fiorentina, as well.
“We had a couple of injured players on the field”, he acknowledged, “and in the second half we produced a very bad performance that was influenced by the condition of some of the players and the inability to change due to injuries”.
The former Bari tactician went on to defend his side, indicating he thinks their best may be ahead of them.
“I am convinced”, he enthused, “that with the right conditions, this team has great potential to grow. I think there are areas in which we can grow a lot”
After opening their season with two defeats, to Fiorentina and Inter, Catania sit eighteenth in Serie A without a point.
