Fiorentina forward: I’m not here because of Klose
Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez has spoken about his relationship with German international teammate Miroslav Klose, and claimed that the Lazio forward’s presence in Italy was not the reason he came to the peninsula.
Klose, who is Gomez’s main competition for a starting berth in the national side, is now in his third season with the Biancocelesti after having moved from European champions Bayern Munich in 2011.
Meanwhile, Gomez also recently left the Bavarians to join La Viola, and is already making waves in Serie A with two goals in his first two league games for the Gigliati. However, speaking to Kicker.de he stated that he isn’t worried about outscoring his compatriot this term.
“There’s no problem between me and Miroslav [Klose], I want to have a great season in Florence and I’m not thinking about how many goals Klose will score,” he said.
“However, I think I need to clarify that I’m not in Italy because Klose is here.”
The 28-year-old Stuttgart youth product signed for Fiorentina from Bayern in a deal worth around €20 million this summer after falling behind Mario Mandzukic in the pecking order at the Allianz Arena.
