Flamini - ArsenalArsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has revealed that AC Milan had offered him a deal before he decided to leave the club this summer.

The 29-year-old, who played for the Rossoneri from 2008-13, chose to rejoin former club Arsenal this summer instead of accepting a two-year deal from the Italian side.

Flamini spoke to France Football about his decision and praised coach Arsene Wenger.

“AC Milan asked me to renew my contract for two years,” said the former French international, as reported by Milannews.it.

“However, at 29-years-old, I wasn’t looking to sign for less than three seasons.

“I had other opportunities in Italy, where some clubs have contacted me, as well as interest from clubs in England and Germany.

“At this stage in my career, it was an important choice, so I took time to think.

“To maintain my fitness, I had decided to train with Arsenal. It was during this time that we came to an agreement.

“The fact that Arsene Wenger is still coach of the Gunners was instrumental in my decision.

“He knows me very well and has played an important role in my career.

“He introduced me to the best league, the Premier League, and taught me so much in tactical, technical, and mental levels.”
