Inter were never an option for Chelsea striker
Former Inter striker Samuel Eto’o was never close to returning to the Nerazzurri this summer.
The 32-year-old Cameroonian star had been linked with a return to Italy following his departure from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, but his agent has quickly rubbished such claims.
“Inter were never really an option,” agent Claudio Vigorelli stated to Tuttosport.
“And if Chelsea hadn’t worked out, Samuel would have probably accepted an offer to go play in Qatar.
“However, we were able to complete the deal after Jose Mourinho pushed for [Chelsea] to sign him.”
Eto’o formerly worked with Mourinho at Inter, where he won the Treble in 2010 and signed a one-year contract with the Blues on August 29th.
The four-time African Player of the Year recipient scored over 50 goals and contributed over 22 assists in all competitions during his two seasons with the Nerazzurri, before being sold to the Russian side in the summer of 2011.
He began his professional career in 1997 with Real Madrid, where he was quickly loaned out to lower division side Leganes, and after failing to make an impact with the capital side, was sold to Mallorca in the summer of 2000.
After four seasons he moved on to Barcelona, where he established himself as one of Europe’s top strikers, winning two Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles before departing for Inter, where he again won another Champions League as well as one Scudetto.
