Italian clubs to rival Tottenham for Chelsea midfielder
Despite the 25-year-old attacking midfielder having been a mainstay in the Blues’ starting line-up since signing for the London club in 2011, Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho reportedly doesn’t consider the player to be an integral part of his plans.
While fans of the Stamford Bridge club are demanding that Mata be given more time on the pitch, The Express reports that the Azzurri and the Bianconeri are set to go toe-to-toe with Tottenham for the player’s signature in the January transfer window.
The former Valencia man would like to stay and prove his worth to Mourinho, but could be forced to leave if he isn’t given a more important role at the club.
Mata scored 20 goals in 64 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season.
