Mexes: AC Milan controlled the game against Celtic
The Rossoneri got off to a flying start in group H against the Scottish champions, with late goals from Cristian Zapata and Sulley Muntari ensuring that all three points stayed at the Stadio San Siro.
“In my opinion, we didn’t suffer a great deal,” Mexes told uefa.com.
“We did well to control the game, and to then score in the final minutes.
“Celtic didn’t create a lot of chances, they only had a couple of shots on target. We defended very well and we scored as soon as we got the chance.
“It’s very important to have secured these three points to start the group on the right foot.”
“We needed a victory to regain our confidence after the less than positive match last weekend against Torino,” he continued.
“Even if we were missing many players through injury, we demonstrated that we have great heart and now we can concentrate on the next match in the championship against Napoli with our morale re-galvanised from tonight’s victory.
“The next match against Ajax will be important, but all of the challenges in the group will be decisive. In Amsterdam we’ll try to play a good match so we can return home with some points.”
