Mulgrew: Celtic can still qualify from Champions League group despite AC Milan defeat
The Hoops eventually lost 2-0 to the Rossoneri in the San Siro, despite playing well and controlling the match for large spells.
Cristian Zapata saw his shot hit the back of the net via a deflection off Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre, with Sulley Muntari adding to the scoreline just four minutes later, tapping in the rebound after Fraser Forster saved well from a Mario Balotelli free-kick.
Mulgrew, however, says the Scottish champions will take a lesson from the result and not let it diminish their desire to qualify from the group.
“Our belief hasn’t changed after this defeat,” he said.
“We did not take our chances, Milan did. That’s the story of the game so maybe it was a small lesson for us.
“I don’t think this result changed much as regards the group and our chance to qualify – we just need to earn as many points as we can from now on.
“We know what Barcelona possess, they are a great team, but we are up for it.
“We are very disappointed with tonight’s defeat but we have to keep believing. It was just one game and there is a long way to go.”
