Roma captain Francesco Totti is reportedly set to sign a two-year contract extension which will keep him with his boyhood club until the summer of 2016.

Rumours were abound that the 36-year-old would again extend his stay with the capital club, with whom he is approaching his 700th appearance.

On Wednesday Roma general director Mauro Baldissoni confirmed that a deal was being negotiated, with Totti himself suggesting it would be agreed upon soon.

Now La Reppublica reports that the new contract has been agreed by both the club and the player, with a press conference to announce the extension – which Totti himself will attend alongside club president James Pallotta – expected to be held on Friday afternoon at Roma’s training complex in Trigoria.

Totti, currently with 228 domestic goals to his name, has made it clear in recent months that he is aiming to break Silvio Piola’s all-time Serie A goalscoring record of 274.

The calcio legend has played in all three of Roma’s league matches so far this term, scoring once and assisting twice.
