Davide Astori - ItalyItaly defender Davide Astori admitted that mistakes his side made in their 2-2 draw with Armenia on Tuesday night were a source of frustration.

A sluggish start is what perhaps cost his side all of the points, he believes, although he did praise the quality of the Armenian attackers.

“We made too many mistakes in the opening 20 minutes and Armenia did well to take advantage of that but that is because they have quality in their attack,” he told Rai Sport.

“They started focused and aggressive and we gave the ball away too much which you cannot do in a World Cup qualifier but we reacted well. I think that the way we started gave them confidence to build upon.”

While the Cagliari man said he was pleased with his own performance, he was also tight-lipped regarding a possible place on the flight to Brazil next summer.

“I am working hard for Cagliari and the national side,” he continued. “That is all I can do. I am happy to have put in a good performance and now I can look forward.”
