Marco Borriello has stated that he is happy at current club Roma despite not wanting to return from his loan spell at Genoa last season.

The striker had been out of favour with Roma and spent last season on loan with the Rossoblu and has admitted he wanted to continue his career there.

While speaking to Sky Sport Italia, the 31-year-old said. “I had one foot out of the door in August.

“That’s because I wanted to continue the excellent work I did with Genoa last term.” He continued.

“At Roma, meanwhile, there are certain hierarchies which mean I wouldn’t be able to start games.

“In the end though, destiny wanted me to stay here and I now feel like an integral part of the side.”

The Italian forward has played in six of his sides eight games so far this season and looks set to play a more integral role in the side following injuries to Francesco Totti and Gervinho.

The player has had such a drastic change of heart that he now looks set to extend his contract with the side from the capital,” he continued.

“My agent and I have been in conversations with the club – I think it will happen soon.”

Borriello scored 12 goals in 28 games in Serie A with Genoa last season but is yet to find the net this term.
