Genoa striker Alberto Gilardino could be set for a move to Canada as Major League Soccer outfit Toronto FC are prepared to make an offer for his services.

It is thought that the Canadian side are eager to sign the 31-year-old from the Grifone in January on a permanent deal, though they may be willing to compromise and bring in the former Fiorentina striker on loan before making the deal permanent in June.

According to gianlucadimarzio.com, the player’s agent Beppe Bozzo travelled across the Atlantic to meet with representatives of the MLS side after being notified of club president Tim Leiweke’s interest in signing the World Cup winner.

Toronto are reportedly set to offer Genoa a transfer fee of €6 million for the player while Gilardino will be on a contract worth €7m per annum for a duration of three years should he decide to leave Italy and head to North America.

Gilardino has 162 goals in 423 Serie A appearances over his 14 year career that has seen him play for the likes of Hellas Verona, Parma, AC Milan, Fiorentina, Bologna and Genoa.
