Javi Garcia Manchester CityNapoli coach Rafael Benitez has urged the club’s upper management to block the deal for Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons as he has set his sights on Manchester City midfielder Javi Garcia.

Although a deal to bring Gonalons to the Stadio San Paolo has been arranged, the availability of the Spanish defensive midfielder has interested the Partenopei tactician.

According to TuttoSport, Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas had accepted a €12 million bid for the Frenchman, with the player himself agreeing to a €2m contract spanning five years.

However, Benitez was reportedly informed that Manchester City would be willing to allow Javi Garcia to leave the club for around €20m and is now intent on bringing his compatriot to Italy.

Napoli currently sit in third spot in the Serie A table having collected 28 points from 13 matches.
