Fiorentina’s search for defensive reinforcements has led them to Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic with the Viola closely monitoring his situation at Old Trafford.

While the Gigliati have been in excellent form so far this season and currently sit just three points outside of the Champions League places, an experienced centre-back is seen as an addition which could help their push for qualification into Europe’s premier club competition.

According to Tuttosport, the Florence-based club have made the 32-year-old Serbian their top transfer priority and could try to lure the former Red Star Belgrade youth product to the Stadio Artemio Franchi by offering him a two year contract with the option of a third, should he agree to a wage decrease.

Vidic has been dogged by injuries during the past three seasons, but has started 12 of the Red Devils’ 19 league games so far this campaign. His contract was set to run out in the summer of 2014, but he has reportedly already signed a 12-month extension to his current deal.
