Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons is reportedly close to joining Napoli as the two clubs have reached an agreement for the player’s transfer to the Stadio San Paolo in January.
The Partenopei attempted to sign the 24-year-old French international in the summer only to be rebuffed in their interest, however it now appears as though Rafa Benitez’s search for midfield reinforcements is set to reach a successful conclusion, with the French side now willing to negotiate.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport the Azzurri will hand over €12 million for the influential midfielder, while Gonalons will sign a four-year contract which will see him earn €1.7m a season up until January 2018.
Gonalons is now in his fifth season with Le Gones, and has scored six goals in 128 appearances for the club since graduating from their youth academy in 2009.
