Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi will continue his battle with cancer.

The Italian centre-back will undergo treatment on testicular cancer, having been diagnosed with the illness last summer.

Gazzetta dello Sport has today written that Acerbi will be admitted to the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan to continue his fight.

The 25 year old has made 13 appearances this season before being recently suspended due to a failed drugs test following the match  against Cagliari on December 1 of this year.

Acerbi tested positive for gonadotropin, which is a hormone associated with testicular cancer.

This is a major set back for Sassuolo and Acerbi himself, who only joined the club in the summer after spells with Milan and Chievo.
