Southampton interested in Cagliari defender

Davide Astori Cagliari are reportedly interested in signing defender this winter.

The 26-year-old has been on the Premier League club’s radar since the summer, when they ultimately decided to sign from , and the team could launch a new bid for him during the January transfer window.

According to the Mirror, Southampton are looking to further strengthen their defence and the Italian international is thought to be their first choice to fill a centre-back position in their line up.

Astori, who has also been linked to as of late, has been with Cagliari since joining from in 2008 and has scored three goals in a total of 155 Serie A appearances for the club thus far.

The defender has scored one goal in his seven appearances with the senior Italian national team since his debut in 2011 and has previous experience with the Under-18 squad as well.
