Veteran Fiorentina midfielder Massimo Ambrosini has admitted he is in no rush to sign a contract extension with the Viola.

Ambrosini, 36, joined his current side from AC Milan last summer and wants to make a decision whether to renew his contract or not based solely on only on footballing issues.

“Before signing the renewal I want to be sure that I am useful to the cause of the club,” he said in an interview with La Reppublica.

“At my age it does not make sense to hurry and that the aim should not be to renew at any cost.”

He went on to discuss his side’s recent arrival and potential arrival: “Matri? He is a coup. Anderson? We have lacked someone like him in our team.”

Despite his age, Ambrosini has been a relative regular in the Viola lineup this season making 16 appearances in all competitions for the side.
