Juventus coach Antonio Conte has said that his side “wanted to win” against Lazio on Saturday night, despite going down to ten men.

The Biancolcelesti and La Vecchia Signora played out a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Saturday night in Serie A.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Conte said that his side “wanted to win”.

“We wanted to win when we had eleven [players],” he told Sky Sport Italia. “We tried to win when we had ten, even in the difficult case when you have a goalkeeper sent off.

“We try to instil a winning mentality.

“The players rose to the occasion, and they showed that they are men”.

When asked about the result. Conte said that his side won a point, while also taking the time to praise Lazio.

“Lost two points? I’d rather say we won a point,” he added. “However, we have shown why we are top of the table.

“We won 12 games in a row, we would’ve liked to win today but I have to congratulate Lazio”.

Conte then took the time to explain how the game went in terms of the game plan, and what happened after Gianluigi Buffon’s sending off.

“Why did [Carlos] Tevez move to the left a lot? We couldn’t play with two up front at first,” he added. “We had to sacrifice Tevez, he would move to left when we weren’t in possession.

“Then we switched to a 4–3-2, where one of the defenders would join the midfield when necessary”.

Finally, Conte discussed the refereeing decisions, lamenting the sending off.

“The red card? I said this last year, it’s fairer to give a booking,” he continued “The rules are too severe.

“The rule is interpreted in many different ways”.
