New AC Milan signing Michael Essien has revealed that the main reason he joined the Rossoneri was the appointment of Clarence Seedorf as coach.

The 31-year-old midfielder has joined the Diavolo on a free transfer from Chelsea and is expected to sign a contract that will keep him at the Italian club until 2015 in the coming days after he completes his medical.

Essien spoke to Milan Channel after arriving at Malpensa Airport on Friday and admitted that he’s excited to be with the Serie A side, while also taking time to thank everyone at Chelsea for making the move possible.

“I will do my best for AC Milan and I hope to be available for them immediately,” said the Ghanaian international, who’s transfer was also supposedly influenced by fellow countryman Sulley Muntari.

“Seedorf? I spoke with him two days ago. Have I heard from Muntari? Not yet, I hope to meet with him shortly. I’m happy to be at Milan. It’s a great club.

“I want to thank [Roman] Abramovich, the squad and [Jose] Mourinho, who have allowed me to wear the Rossoneri shirt. I decided to join Milan because of Seedorf. He is a great man and I hope that he will also become a great manager.

“I can’t wait to play for Milan. Kaka and [Mario] Balotelli are great players.”

It’s a very pleasant gesture to attribute the move to the legend Seedorf. I hope by his (Esien’s) example, some young and very talented Africans will follow their idols to Millan in the very near future to lift this great club up again.
    God Bless Michael.
