Sassuolo are set to appoint Alberto Malesani as their new head coach with Eusebio Di Francesco believed to have been sacked.

Di Francesco has been rumoured as being on the verge of being replaced on a number of occasions this season, but is now thought to have been shown the door following the 3-1 loss to relegation rivals Livorno.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, a short and decisive meeting between the Neroverdi management has taken place this morning and it is believed that the former Virtus Lanciano, Pescara and Lecce coach has been dismissed.

But before an announcement on the future of the 44-year-old tactician is made official, the club are believed to be keen to have a replacement in place.

It is understood that last season’s Serie B champions have contacted former Bologna and Genoa boss Malesani over his availability to take over from Di Francesco.

Malesani was most recently in charge of Palermo for a three-week period in February 2013.
