Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella has admitted that he’s confident in his team’s work in training ahead of their match against Livorno this weekend.

The Viola will be facing the struggling Amaranto at home on Sunday and the tactician is hoping that his squad can start the new year off positively by securing a victory, though he doesn’t want them underestimating their opponents.

Montella spoke during his pre-match press conference about the upcoming game, while also commenting on the January transfer window and Hellas Verona midfielder Jorginho, who has been linked to Fiorentina as of late.

“We are responsible and the lads came back to training after Christmas in even better condition than I expected,” said the 39-year-old.

“I am confident in the work of the team. David Pizarro is training well, while with Alberto Aquilani or Massimo Ambrosini we have other emergency options in front of the defence.

“We must not get the wrong approach to this game. I hope the team will be concentrated, as Livorno need points and will do everything to get them against us.

“A month of negotiations is a long time and that can affect some players psychologically. It would be better for everyone if the window were to be shortened.

“Jorginho? He is an interesting player, but I know nothing about it. We’ll try to improve the squad, seeing as we have three competitions to take part in.”
