It is a familiar story at the top of Group A after Torino extended their unbeaten run further and continue to look comfortable when doing so.

This time the victims were Novara through a second half header from Andrea Ientile and a late goal from the outstanding prospect that is Mattia Aramu wrapped up the win.

Refusing to give up the fight though are Empoli who remain five points behind after they blew Modena away with a 4-1 victory with that man Diego Frugoli again proving key, claiming a goal for himself.

For Juventus, it appears their hopes of topping the table are all but over after they dropped two points in a 4-4 draw against the ever-improving Spezia.

Anastasios Donis hit a first half hat-trick for Juventus to give them a comfortable 3-0 lead which they somehow conspired to throw away their advantage. Davide Miocchi scored twice with the dramatic equaliser coming with the last kick of the game.

Bottom of the table Genoa were also embroiled in a high-scoring game themselves as they shared six goals with Carpi and like the Bianconeri, somehow managed to throw it all away.

Tiberio Velocci also hit a hat-trick of his own to give the Girfoni a 3-1 against a Carpi side who had been reduced to 10 men after 22 minutes and looked on the way to a priceless victory but went on to lose goals in the 88th and 93rd minutes and had to settle for a draw.

Parma left Siena with a well-earned 2-1 victory as did Cesena when they made the trip to Genoa to take on Sampdoria with Simone Raffini hitting a late winner and then stupidly seeing red for a second yellow card due to his celebration.

Two second half goals for Bologna helped them to the win against Sassuolo.

Atalanta squeezed past Padova to keep their four point lead at the top of Group B with Mattia Caldara proving to be the goalscoring hero for La Dea.

Keeping pace with them in second place are Chievo Verona who were never unduly untroubled against Ternana after Domenico Brunetti put them ahead after 20 minutes of action.

AC Milan slipped up in their pursuit of the top sides in another game full of goals, drawing 3-3 away to Pescara; Davide Di Molfetta, Alex Pedone and Iacopo Cernigoi the men who got the Rossoneri goals.

Their city rivals Inter looked to be following suit with the Diavolo by having to settle for a draw until Federico Bonazzoli popped up in the final minute of normal time to give them the victory.

Cittadella and Virtus Lanciano are both stuck at the wrong end of the table and both were in desperate need of points. The last thing they needed were demoralising 4-0 defeats to Hellas Verona and Udinese respectively, Fabio Alba and Emanuele Rovini each scoring twice for their side.

A controversial red card with the scores still at 1-1 between Cagliari and Varese would hurt the visitors badly as the Isolani ended up romping to a 4-1 win with the extra man’s advantage.

For weeks, Fiorentina have been patiently waiting for Lazio to slip up and waiting to take their chance at the top of Group C and finally, they got that opportunity.

Simone Inzaghi’s side could only manage a 1-1 draw away to Napoli who had two men and their coach all sent off and their goalkeeper injured at various stages of the second half and still managed to secure a draw.

Taking a leaf out of their senior side’s book though, the Viola failed to take advantage and move to the summit by drawing 0-0 with Palermo.

Roma’s steady ascent upwards continued after they dispatched Crotone 2-0 at Trigoria in a rather ill-tempered affair but the result now moves them to within two points of their Eternal City rivals.

Bari shocked Catania in Sicily when they came up against each other as Federico Pizzutelli got the only goal of the game in that one.

Reggina continue to pick up good points on the road and managed it again when they travelled to Trapani and left with all three points in a 2-0 win.

The ten men of Latina scored at the death in Tuscany to condemn Livorno to a share of the spoils while basement boys Avellino continue to flounder, this time being battered 4-1 by Juve Stabia.
