Former Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has expressed his willingness to rejoin the Viola should the club want him to replace injured forward Giuseppe Rossi.

Mutu, who is currently without a club after leaving French side AC Ajaccio, would be able to join up with Vincenzo Montella’s side immediately if they take up his offer.

Speaking to Florentine radio station Radio Blu, the Romanian striker acknowledged his sadness for Rossi’s injury, which will see the club’s current top scorer miss a substantial chunk of the season.

“I am very sorry about what happened to Rossi,” Mutu said. “He was playing great and taking Fiorentina upwards.”

Having spent five seasons with the Gigliati, Mutu retains a fondness for the club, too.

“You all know how I feel about this city and this team,” he continued. “As the club has remained on good terms [since I left], if Fiorentina called, it would not take me a second to come back.”

Now 34 years old, Mutu made over a hundred appearances for Fiorentina up to 2011, scoring more than fifty goals for the club.
