Sunderland defender Modibo Diakite may return to Serie A after only six months in the English Premier League.
The 26 year old left Lazio on a free transfer over the summer but has failed to make much of an impact so far this season, featuring in only seven games for the Black Cats.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Diakite may leave the Stadium of Light during the winter transfer window and make a return to Italy.
Hellas Verona, Sampdoria, and Sassuolo are the three clubs that have reportedly contacted Sunderland and expressed interest in the Frenchman.
Before moving to Wearside, Diakite spent his entire career in Italy, first playing for Pescara followed by seven years at Lazio.
The defender made 82 appearances for the Biancocelesti before falling out of favor last season.
