Stadio San SiroAC Milan have abandoned their plan to move from the San Siro to a new stadium on the site of the Expo 2015.

The Rossoneri are eager to leave the stadium that has been their home since 1926  and had identified the Expo site in the Rho-Pero district in the city’s north-west as a possible site for development.

However, the plans are estimated to cost more than €300 million according to the Gazzetta dello Sport and Silvio Berlusconi deems the proposal to be too expensive for him to support.

The original plans for the Expo site were to build a 60,000 seater stadium as Barbara Berlusconi is eager to see Milan owning their own stadium so that they can maximise matchday revenue and enjoy other increased commercial benefits as they have felt frustrated by the financial limitations of playing in a stadium owned by the local authority.

It is now believed that the Diavolo will turn there attention to a possible new site in the northern suburb of Sesto San Giovanni.
