Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci admits that his team earned an important three points in their 3-1 win over Chievo on Sunday.

The Bianconeri were able to secure their 3-1 victory at home with goals from Kwadwo Asamoah, Claudio Marchisio and Fernando Llorente, but also provided the Flying Donkeys with their only goal due to an own goal from Martin Caceres, which the 26-year-old believes almost changed the course of the game.

Bonucci spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the victory about Juve’s mistake, while also commenting on the quality they showed on the pitch.

“The own goal today shows that even when you’re able to create chances, a goal can still be conceded,” said the Italian international.

“Chievo were able to reopen the game after the rebound goal, so we had to remain focused. We were good enough to close the match, but the game had still been reopened.

“After Llorente’s goal, the match went on without any problems. We lost the ball a few times, but there’s always a risk when you try to play the ball with defenders.

“It was important that we were able to take these important three points in the race for the Scudetto.

“We reviewed the match we had with Hellas Verona and the mistakes we made, and this time coach [Antonio] Conte wanted to train the day right after the match. We left better than we were before.

“Absences? The substitutes had trained to be ready to play. This also shows the strength of Juventus.

“[Sebastian] Giovinco booed? The gesture from the coach is a symbol of what he wants from the team and the club.

“We stand with him and today he did well. He did what the coach asked of him.”
