Leeds United’s new owner Massimo Cellino is reportedly hoping to bring Juventus legend and current Sydney FC striker Alessandro Del Piero to Elland Road in June.

Cagliari patron Cellino’s company Eleanora Sport Limited recently bought a 75 percent controlling stake in the Yorkshire club, which will go through subject to him passing the Football League’s ‘fit and proper person test’ in the coming week.

According to Sport Direct News, the newly-instated Whites supremo will make his first move on the transfer market by bringing 39-year-old Del Piero, one of the most celebrated figures in Italian football, to the Championship club.

The 2006 World Cup winner spent 19 glorious seasons in Turin playing with Italian champions Juventus, scoring 290 goals in 705 appearances, before moving to the A-League with Sydney FC in 2012. He has been in good form so far for the Sky Blues, hitting the back of the net 21 times in 39 games.

  1. “According to Sport Direct News” is about the same as “According to Mystic Meg.”

    Legend? Possibly.
    Old man? Definatly
Supposed “experianced older players” have not served leeds well in recent years no matter the pedigree of the player.

  3. Mr Alborino this story about Del Piero coming to Leeds. might be believed by lesser gullible fans, but us Leeds fans we are used to so many broken promises, false dawns, false prophets and generally being lied to for about 15 years or more so excuse me for being sceptical .Words like “reportedly”,”hopefully “”possibly” and “looking to”,all mean nothing to us Leeds fans than here comes a betrayal. We would more believe that Michael Jackson has resurrected than Del Piero signing for Leeds. That is unless we see Del Piero signing on the dotted line at Elland Rd.Even then we would have to check it’s not an imposter. So you see Mr Alborino with all due respect until then these Cellino Italian linked stories are just tittle tattle and should be confined to the nearest trash can.Del Piero ? more like The man from Del Monte.

Yeah….I live in oz and watch this so called legend. He’s fat, slow and even tho he’s still got a fair amount if skill left he’d be no use in the championship. Football here is like Sunday league back home. Even Burns and Miller are still playing !!

I’ve seen him play for Sydney FC a few times and he’s far too slow. Frequently loses the ball in midfield and is rarely allowed to exploit his undoubted skill against pacey teams.
