Torino bounced back from their Viareggio Cup disappointment by taking out their frustration on Modena with Mattia Aramu getting them going on the way to a 2-0 victory.

Second met third in the battle of Empoli and Juventus and something had to give which it did as a first half red card cost the Tuscans dear after Diego Frugoli had put them ahead and the Bianconeri came back after the break to win it 2-1 with a winner from Younes Bnou Marzouk.

Genoa’s woes continue as they remain rooted to the foot of the table with Filip Pivkovski scoring twice for Novara as they romped to a 4-1 win.

Their city rivals are having a much better time of it and their great form continues after they bested Sassuolo 2-1 on the road and the good results continued to flow for away sides.

Toro in fact would prove to be the only team who would win at home that game week, every other game ending in away wins.

Spezia also won 2-1 away to Carpi and Riccardo Benatti got Bologna’s winner against Siena while Cesena and Parma’s meeting was postponed.

The Viareggio Cup schedule played havoc with the fixtures in Group B with only four games going ahead due to team’s participation in the prestigious youth tournament.

Atalanta’s not being in action gave Chievo the chance to cut the gap at the top of the table to four points and they did so with a 3-1 win over Brescia, Victor Da Silva back among the goals.

AC Milan’s absence (off winning the Viareggio Cup) and Hellas Verona being out of action gave Inter the chance to put some crucial points on the board but had to settle for a draw against Pescara after both teams scored in the space of 60 second half seconds.

Udinese escaped from Padova with a 2-2 draw and Cristian Galliani hit a last minute winner for Varese as they beat Cittadella 3-2 away from home.

The Group C fixtures to fail to go ahead were Juve Stabia and Fiorentina’s trips to Palermo and Trapani respectively.

Lazio took full advantage of the Viola not having the chance to keep pace at the top by beating Catania 2-0 with two second half strikes that helped them leave Sicily with a massive win.

Two early goals from Roma helped them ease past Reggina 3-0 to get back to winning ways as did Livorno.

The Amaranto took on struggling Avellino at home and put four past them with Daniele Bartolini scoring twice in a 4-1 victory.

A goal in each half from Napoli saw them see off Bari with a 2-0 victory while a Marco Mingiano hat-trick saw Crotone thrash Latina 3-0.
