The 66th edition of the Viareggio Tournament went into its third day with two of Italian football’s giants becoming surprise casualties.

Roma and Livorno played out a magnificent match Stadio Pian di Giunta in day three of the Viareggip Tournament, with the Tucscan side ending up 3-2 winners

In the opening half Livorno were devastating and scored all three of their goals in the first 23 minutes. However after the interval, Giallorossi coach Alberto De Rossi had clearly had words with his boys and they produced a much more coherent performance, though despite goals from Jacopo Ferri and Elio Capradossi they couldn’t get another to claim a miraculous comeback.

The result leaves Roma on the edge of elimination from the tournament and need a win in their final Group 3 match against Envigado, who usurped Benfica 1-0, to have a chance of advancing, but must also rely on Livorno being beaten by the Portuguese side.

Torino continue to dominate Group 4, despite their match with Siena ending goalless, as one point was enough to ensure that their destiny remains in their own hands.

The Granata hit the woodwork twice in the match though Mattia Aramu and Pietro Barale, thus going into their final game they know a win or draw with Santos Laguna will ensure qualification to the next round.

Elsewhere, Napoli’s poor tournament continued as they were beaten 1-0 by Palermo, with Roberto Pirrello bagging the only goal. That means the Azzurri are eliminated from the competition as it was their second defeat – the first being against Anderlecht.

In Group 1, Atalanta beat a tough Representatives of Serie D side 3-2 thanks to a Alessandro Marchini strike, following a double from Faisal Bangal. Meanwhile, defending champions Anderlecht made light work of Australian side Apia Leichaardt, comfortably winning thanks to a Mohamed Soumaré hat-trick.

The Belgian side will have to wait until Friday to secure their passage to the next round as they face Palermo, though both teams could theoretically make it through with a draw.

Finally, Nordsjaelland and Club Guarani played out a 0-0 draw.
