After defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night saw AC Milan exit the Champions League goalkeeper Christian Abbiati admitted that the Spanish side had deserved to proceed and coach Diego Simeone and his players can progress even further.
After conceding three minutes into the match the Rossoneri did well to rally, equalising on the night through captain Kaka, but were eventually overpowered by their hosts who scored a further three goals to win the tie 5-1 on aggregate.
“Atletico Madrid can try to win La Liga and also proceed in the Champions League,” Abbiati told Tuttomercatoweb.
“It seems right to me that Atletico have reached the quarter-finals.
“Simeone’s team are not a favourite, but can go even further because it has a good coach and a good team.”
Rossoneri goalkeeper Abbiati spent the 2007-08 season on loan at the Vicente Calderon from Milan and went on to make 30 appearances in all competitions for Atletico.
