Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma has defended his time in the Serie A, stating that the style of play in the league was not suited to him.

The 30 year old Portuguese international was brought to Inter by Jose Mourinho in 2008 in a big money move from Porto, but flopped spectacularly before being shipped out to Turkish side Besiktas in 2010.

“The Serie A was not at all suitable for me,” Quaresma admitted to So Foot in a recent interview.

“It is a unique type of football, where you risk little, and where everyone must pay attention to the opponent’s mistakes and then counterattack. This is not my style.”

Quaresma returned to Porto in January after a brief stint in the UAE with Al-Ahli, and his brilliant form has led to calls for him to get picked for the World Cup.
