Fiorentina patron Andrea Della Valle has stated that midfielder Borja Valero’s suspension reduction is a defeat for football.

The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder had his four-match suspension reduced by one match but Della Valle wanted to see the suspension overturned.

“It is a defeat for football,” Della Valle told ViolaChannel.

“We have lost the chance to start a planned course on having constructive dialogue although the images were very clear [to see].”

“Above all I feel sorry for the guy, who did not deserve this sentence.”

Valero received the ban after referee Andrea Gervasoni accused the Fiorentina midfielder of placing his hands on the him in the 2-2 draw away to Parma.

The Spaniard was arguing with Parma midfielder Gianni Munari during injury time and Gervasoni sent-off both players before Valero supposedly touched the referee.

Valero is expected to make his Serie A return to the Fiorentina line-up in Round 29 away to Napoli.
