Torino extended their lead at the top of Group A was extended to 11 points after an emphatic 4-2 win over Sassuolo with Matteo Colombi, Mattia Aramu and two from Emanuel Gyasi getting them the victory.

That was as a result of second placed Empoli slipping up as they twice led against Siena but failed to hold on for the win, settling for a 2-2 draw, while Juventus fell into fourth after losing at Vinovo against a Parma side who were reduced to 10 men during the first half.

Taking their place in third are the resurgent Sampdoria who swept Carpi aside 4-0 with an outstanding display and this team’s star continues to rise.

City rivals Genoa led at the start of the second half against Bologna but ultimately settled for a 1-1 draw as Ponti’s last gasp strike for Modena ensured the same result when they took on Spezia.

Finally, Cesena were beaten on home turf by Nicolas Schiavi’s goal for Novara after two minutes.

Chievo are the new leaders of Group B having finally sent Atalanta toppling from their perch atop the table with Matteo Massetti’s two goals setting them on their way to a 4-0 win over Cittadella.

Ironically, they have their city rivals Hellas to thank for going top after they travelled to Lombardy, taking on Atalanta and left with all three points through Alessandro Gatto’s first half winner.

Third-placed Inter were stunned on the road against Padova through Radrezza’s winner with AC Milan taking full advantage with a 3-2 win over Varese through a brace from Vido and Andrea Pedone’s second half strike.

Cagliari are aiming to keep their rise up the table going and managed it with a 1-0 win over Ternana as Udinese triumphed by the same scoreline on the road at Pescara.

In the final game, Brescia and Virtus Lanciano managed five goals between them with the decisive one falling to the home side as Nicolo Ragnoli scored his second of the match to clinch all the points.

In Group C, Lazio extended their lead at the top of the table to three points after closest challengers Fiorentina slipped up in pursuit.

They themselves were playing a Derby della Capitale and managed to narrowly see of their city rivals with Luca Crecco getting the second half winner in a 3-2 victory.

The Viola meanwhile, slipped up away to Reggina, drawing 2-2 despite Andy Bungu twice giving them the lead while fourth also met fifth as Napoli battled Livorno in Tuscany and left with a 1-1 draw through Rubino’s 92nd minute equaliser.

Avellino simply cannot win and this trend continued as Bari left with a 3-1 victory through a Leonetti double as Latina triumphed 2-0 away to Trapani.

It was a good weekend for the Sicilian sides too as Catania thrashed Juve Stabia 3-0, Sergio Garufi scoring twice, and Palermo beat Crotone 2-1 thanks to two first half goals.
