The consortium of American businessman interested in buying Cagliari has contacted the current ownership again to discuss a possible takeover of the Sardinian side.

The Rossoblu were put up for sale when Massimo Cellino started his efforts to buy Leeds United.

As reported by ANSA, on April 14 the consortium was in conversation with current owner Cellino to discuss  a takeover.

The American’s Italian representative Luca Silvestrone confirmed that talks between Cellino and the potential buyers had taken place and he promised that the situation will would become clearer by the end of the month.

“They have spoken to sort out the technical details,” Silvestrone stated as reported by ANSA.

It is believed that the Americans’s interest depends on them being granted permission from the local council to build a new stadium.

It has been reported that initial discussions with the council regarding the stadium were productive, allowing Silvestrone to carry on with negotiations between the American consortium and Cellino.

Cagliari are currently 15th in Serie A having sacked head coach Diego Lopez on April 6.
