Benitez - NapoliNapoli coach Rafael Benitez was disappointed with his side in the wake of their 1-0 defeat to Parma, saying they could not keep their high level displays going.

They travelled to the Ennio Tardini off the back of a brilliant 2-0 victory over Juventus at home the previous week but once more their lack of consistency came to the fore.

Talking to Sky Sport Italia, Benitez said: “I think we substantially controlled the match, they had one shot on goal and they scored. We had chances and we couldn’t take them.

“It is disappointing we could not keep up to our high level. Why did I decide to take off Higuain? I was careful in trying to change the game for us. The penalty on Zapata? As always, I will not comment on this.”

Benitez was also critical of the mindset of his players not only in this game but over the course of the campaign: “Do we have a mental problem? We could do more and defend with more intensity for sure.

“We have strengths and weaknesses and we need to understand the things that we do well and improve.

“There are positives for us for sure. We had a great season in the Champions League, Europa League and Coppa Italia. Second place is difficult for us and we cannot always keep playing on the same level but now we will try to keep third place and win the Coppa Italia.”
