Napoli boss Rafa Benitez has praised Dries Mertens and believes the forward can do even better for the club as he continues improving.
The 26-year-old, who arrived at the Serie A side from PSV Eindhoven before the start of the current campaign, has been impressive during his debut season for the Partenopei thus far, scoring eight goals in his 29 league appearances, including one in the Azzurri’s most recent 4-2 win over Lazio on Sunday.
Benitez spoke to Voetbal International about the Belgian international’s talents and insisted that he’s only getting better as time progresses.
“I know Dries and I know what he is capable of doing,” said the Napoli tactician.
“He is an exemplary professional, who is increasingly improving also in his defensive game as well, but he can do even better.”
Dries Mertens was Rafa Benitez’s first signing as Napoli coach over the summer for a reported fee of around €9.5 million.
