Catania have officially sacked coach Rolando Maran for the second time this season.

The 50-year-old tactician was initially given the boot in October 2013 and replaced by Gigi De Canio, who he later replaced in January this year.

Now according to a statement released by the club, Maurizio Pellegrino will take over for the rest of the season.

Pellegrino will be given a three month deal as he attempts to save the Elefanti from relegation, though was last in charge of a side in 2011-12 when he coached Lecco.

Catania currently sit bottom of Serie A, seven points adrift of safety, following their 2-1 defeat to Torino on Sunday.
